Tequila Cuestión Reposado
From TequilaGringo: The nose was frankly, delicious. It's floral, with agave and notes of spice and cinnamon. With slow moving legs and a somewhat silky but also somewhat oily mouthfeel the start was great. The flavor followed the floral nose, but added much more cinnamon and spice while still displaying some agave. You can really taste the whiskey barrels, they add the right amount of flavor. A light-medium heat and a medium length finish, it ends with agave. Delicious! Read more »
Revolucion Reposado
From TequilaGringo: This tequila has guns on the bottle. We like that, and firmly believe in everyone's right to bear tequila bottles with arms on them. And darn if it doesn't have the best cap in the business, we just love giving it a simple spin between the thumb and middle finger and watching it unwind silky smooth style. But that's just packaging at the end of the day. What's inside is what counts, and Revolucion delivers. The color is an exceptionally pale yellow, particularly for a repo that spent 10 months in the barrel. The nose is a vegetal, somewhat earthy agave. The mouthfeel is on the thin side and soft. The taste follows suit, with an earthy agave with maybe a touch of spice. Read more »
Adan y Eva Reposado
From TequilaGringo: The nose and taste both featured a vegetal agave. Not our favorite, but we can appreciate it. The taste followed with an herbal flavor as well. Oily mouthfeel. 6 stars.
From Adan y Eva: Adan y Eva Reposado, 100% Blue Agave is gently rested for over six months. Our special resting process delivers a richer, cleaner and deeper tequila flavor than other Reposados.
Here's their promo video - it's sort of a glorified slide show, but you can get some insight into their facilities from it. Read more »
Real de Mexico Reposado
From TequilaGringo: This one comes in with an easy nose, very little burn and a hint of spice. Plenty going on in the taste, the 4 months in oak barrels did it well. We tasted black pepper, agave and a lot of honey. The amount of honey we tasted was unusual for a tequila, and we liked that. Mouthfeel was best described as light. It has a rather medium heat. Overall we liked it so much we gave it 8 stars. Nice. We don't do that too often.
From Real de Mexico: Great video tour of their facilities in Arandas. Place looks super nice!
Republic Reposado
From TequilaGringo: This repo is a very pale yellow. The nose is tough to pick out because it's not a strong smelling tequila. But what comes through the most is the agave - after-all, it is tequila so why shouldn't that be what you smell? But that's not all, there's a bit of cinammon in there too though. Tasting this tequila and you'll find it's a very straightforward tequila. Agave taste, medium heat in an oily mouthfeel. The finish is brief though, a bit here and gone. 7 stars.
Dos Lunas Reposado
TequilaGringo: Oh wow. We had this at West LA's Winehouse, and we absolutely loved it. Their rep tells us it's organic, but they don't quite have the approval to say it yet. The rep said, "Either you love it or you love it a lot" and we agree! It's aged in charred sherry barrels which really made this not only unique, but delicious. The nose was nice, light, with maybe a hint of cinnamon. The taste followed up very well, you can certainly taste the sherry barrels, but it also has a "just right" amount of caramel that gives it a wonderful complexity. A big full body. If you like bourbon, you're going to like this - plain and simple. 9 stars and on TequilaGringo's best Reposado list. Read more »
Corzo Reposado
TequilaGringo: Corzo reposado's a solid choice because they're pretty easy to find and so much better than the typical tequila out there. Each bottle is 7-12 years in the making. They use twice the agave compared to most other tequilas. Though more expensive, they cut down to the purest heart of the distillate. The tequila is from the Los Altos de Jalisco area, and that higher altitude produces agave with a higher sugar content making for sweeter flavors. Corzo's also the only tequila to incorporate a second mellowing process prior to the third distillation. The double mellowing enhances the oak and vanilla flavors while maintaining the softness and smoothness of the finish. We found the nose to be mostly agave, Read more »
Teky Lady's
From TequilaGringo: We sampled this tequila at the 2008 Expo Tequila in Tijuana. It has a heavy, nay, remarkably ridiculously caramelly caramel taste to it. It's aged 9 months in the barrel, so they must've added caramel flavoring to it. It sorta tasted like they added caramel to Tres Mujeres Repo we think. At any rate, it's actually candy like, and kinda good. No purist would appreciate it but if you like it you oughtta drink it we say. We didn't buy a bottle though ;-) It's not available for sale in the US at this time.
Tres Mujeres
From Tequila Gringo: We rather liked this tequila. We first sampled it at last year's Tequila Expo in Tijuana. We found that it had a light heat, and a nice agave taste. It actually won "Most Popular Tequila of the 2007 Expo Tequila". Read more »
Hijos de Villa Reposado - Pistol
From Tequila Gringo: We were pretty sceptical of this just because the bottle looked like a marketing gimick (it is). But we picked up one anyway as a gift for a friend because that marketing gimick works (it's awesome). Two things happened. One, the guy we gave it to absolutely LOVED it. Two, it shocked the heck out of us when it turned out to be an ok tequila, we liken it to Cazadores Repo. Pale yellow color and an agave smell. Medium heat. Agave notes. WAY better than Cuervo. Not on the best list, but who cares, it's a completely awesome gift. Next time you're going to a party, taking a trip to Mexico, whatever - show up with a couple of these and you'll be talked about for the re Read more »
Siete Leguas Reposado
From TequilaGringo.com We were pretty excited to try this tequila after having enjoyed the anejo, but we found it to be just a step short of it's vaunted sibling. It's a beautiful, pale, golden color. Interestingly, we found smoke in the taste, something we haven't seen in too many repos. The rest was agave, and that's not a bad thing at all, it just wasn't enough to make us crazy. A solid choice, but you can find more interesting/complex tequlias.
From Tequila 7 Leguas: 8 months in white oak barrels have made Reposado 7 Leguas (7 Leages Mellow) the only one in its class. Read more »
Don Fulano Reposado
From TequilaGringo.com Had this at a tasting at LA's El Carmen. Any place that has Mexican Wrester masks is ok by us! We thought this was a good tequila, but not a favorite. The taste brought forward caramel, almost cloying at first. Finishes smooth, but our take was that it was sort of a one note tequila. Read more »
Tequila Tierras Reposado
From TequilaGringo.com This Double Gold Medal winner at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition has a light, golden straw color, just about right for a repo. The nose had a strong agave scent, and maybe a little wood. The taste follows up with a solid agave taste and some smoke and the finish was crisp and clean. We found the mouth feel to be light and smooth. Not a bad effort for this new tequila. Read more »
Tequila Ocho, Reposado
TequilaGringo.com Review:
We're becoming big fans of tequila Ocho. After a good tasting of the anejo, we decided to give the repo a shot and were pretty darned happy with it. On first smell, you'll pick up unmistakable citrus, and when you taste it you immediately find more citrus and some smoke. The long finish is complex with notes of cinammon and maybe some choclate, and that's when we started to really like this tequila. Pale gold in color, paler than most repos. Medium heat.
