Sherry barrels make this a real winner

TequilaGringo: Oh wow.  We had this at West LA's Winehouse, and we absolutely loved it.  Their rep tells us it's organic, but they don't quite have the approval to say it yet.  The rep said, "Either you love it or you love it a lot" and we agree!  It's aged in charred sherry barrels which really made this not only unique, but delicious.  The nose was nice, light, with maybe a hint of cinnamon.  The taste followed up very well, you can certainly taste the sherry barrels, but it also has a "just right" amount of caramel that gives it a wonderful complexity.  A big full body.  If you like bourbon, you're going to like this - plain and simple.  9 stars and on TequilaGringo's best Reposado list. One of the great tequilas

TequilaGringo.com: Let's just start with, "wow".  We were already huge huge fans of the five year, so we came into this with high hopes.  The bottle is a very similar design to the 5 year, but with silver accents where on the 5 year there's gold.  Each bottle is also numbered and signed in a classy way.  We found that it had a familiar nose, similar to the 5 year.  Taste followed with delicious caramel, perhaps just a bit stronger than the 5 year we'd grown accustomed to (though that of course could simply be the barrel our tequila came from).  The finish, amazingly smooth.  This tequila won the double gold at the 2009 SF Spirit Awards, and with good reason.  Treat yourself to a little something special a Read more »

Heavy, heavy caramel

From TequilaGringo: We sampled this tequila at the 2008 Expo Tequila in Tijuana.  It has a heavy, nay, remarkably ridiculously caramelly caramel taste to it.  It's aged 9 months in the barrel, so they must've added caramel flavoring to it.  It sorta tasted like they added caramel to Tres Mujeres Repo we think.  At any rate, it's actually candy like, and kinda good.  No purist would appreciate it but if you like it you oughtta drink it we say.  We didn't buy a bottle though ;-)  It's not available for sale in the US at this time.

Loads of caramel, simple tequila

From TequilaGringo.com     Had this at a tasting at LA's El Carmen.  Any place that has Mexican Wrester masks is ok by us!  We thought this was a good tequila, but not a favorite.  The taste brought forward caramel, almost cloying at first.  Finishes smooth, but our take was that it was sort of a one note tequila. A nice, silky tequila

TequilaGringo.com Review:

We found this to be a silky tequila.  It didn't have any bite, and light heat.  A faint wisp of caramel along with honey notes.  More barrel tasting than agave tasting.  We thought it was a great sipping tequila but came up a little short compared to some of our other favorites because it didn't quite have the same level of complexity those others do.

Wow. Just Wow.

We just loved this tequila.  We were down in Cabo San Lucas at the house of the owner of the famous restaurants "The Office" and Edith's, and had an oppty to try this from her personal collection, in a Reidel glass of course.  It was like no other tequila we've had, frankly.  It has an almost syrupy consistency to it, and its rich caramel and almond flavors were truly unique.  Not too much agave interestingly enough, but this is definitely a tequila.  Highly recommended, and on our "Best" list. Tastus The Cactus - We did and loved it

Tequila Gringo Review
What can we say, we loved this stuff. We picked up caramel and spice on both the nose and the taste. Comes in pretty cool bottle as well, so it's got that goin' for it. We're putting it on our best anejos list, so now it's got that goin' for it as well.

A fantastic reposado

Tequila Gringo Review We've been fans of Casa Noble's Anejo for a long time here at Tequila Gringo, and everything we heard got our hopes up super high for the Reposado. When we finally found our chance at LA's El Carmen, we weren't dissapointed. At first we liked the smell, but what was interesting was that after it had a chance to breathe it got even better. The taste brought back slightly softer tastes of caramel than the anejo, and maybe a little more nut coming in. We loved it and are putting it on our "best" list.

Chocolate, Everyone Likes Chocolate

Tequila Gringo Review
We tried this in a tasting with three other anejos at a place in San Francisco. It was up against Casa Noble Anejo and Partida's offering. This came in a very close second to the Casa Noble in our opinion, very close. I guess we just love those chocolatey smooth ones. This one makes our list for best anejos.

Carmel Yum

From Tequila Gringo:
We loved this tequila. A relative brought it by on the recommendation from a store owner so we gave it a go. It sure passed the smell test, and we dove in. The first thing we noticed was the caramel and chocolately goodness. Vanilla was in there too. Smooth finish. A real treat this one is.

One of the best tequilas, and only 50 bucks to boot!

From Tequila Gringo:

This bottle didn't last long with us, it was too good!  We found there to be gentle vanilla and caramel tastes along with delicious agave.  A great sipping tequila that we highly recommend you try.  This 100% agave tequila is aged in white oak barrels for up to nine months.  An absolutely beautiful bottle as well makes this a great gift and a real looker on the bar!

Great Value

From Tequila Gringo:

Another great one from the good folks at El Mayor.  We served this to some friends of ours and they all were shocked that tequila could be so good.  In fact, two emailed me the next day to get the name again because they wanted to buy some.  We picked up caramel (and we love when we pick up caramel) a medium heat and a delicious richness.  This 100% agave tequila is aged for up to 3 years in white oak barrels.

An All Time Favorite at Tequila Gringo

Tequila Gringo Review:

Casa Noble is one of the all time greats, and one of our favorites. Matured in French White Oak barrels for 5 yrs, this tequila has an exceptional bouquet and body that ranks among the best distilled spirits in the world. Carmel-ly goodness, and yup, that's real gold on the bottle. Read more »
