Casa Dragones
From TequilaGringo: We just had a tasting of this very expensive, ultra high-end tequila, and we liked it! The nose has some vegetal hints, and very little burn. Initial taste was vegetal, with prominent sweet agave. As the taste progressed, it became a sweet pear and it kept getting sweeter, until the finish which was almost sugary. It has a silky, velvety mouthfeel that makes it highly drinkable - you roll this bottle out with the ladies and you're all gonna be in the tank in no time. It's incredibly easy-drinking, super low heat, very very smooth. Read more »
Trago Anejo
From TequilaGringo: An anejo for agave lovers. Clear, clean agave flavor. Not much of the barrel is noticeable and this is not a flaw, but rather a feature for those who like more vegetal tequilas. Very light spice, low heat, and smooth. Color is lighter than many anejos. An interesting sipping teqiula but perhaps not for those of you who enjoy honeyed or oakey anejos. Read more »
Yeyo Blanco
From TequilaGringo: Yeyo is a tequila brand with attitude. Their advertising is filled with images of hunky guys drinking the way you're supposed to drink. So we set out to see if the marketing was all hype or if there was a product behind it. Here's the deal: The nose on this blanco is a delicious agave, just as it should be. With it's medium heat, we all decided that we really really liked the smell of this one. OK. Great start. Mouthfeel was velvety, a very nice velvety that we enjoyed immensely. On taste, initially there's a citrus to it with a trace of pepper, but really it has a lot of agave. It's a very smooth tequila on top of it all. Read more »
Real de Mexico Reposado
From TequilaGringo: This one comes in with an easy nose, very little burn and a hint of spice. Plenty going on in the taste, the 4 months in oak barrels did it well. We tasted black pepper, agave and a lot of honey. The amount of honey we tasted was unusual for a tequila, and we liked that. Mouthfeel was best described as light. It has a rather medium heat. Overall we liked it so much we gave it 8 stars. Nice. We don't do that too often.
From Real de Mexico: Great video tour of their facilities in Arandas. Place looks super nice!
Real de Mexico Blanco
From TequilaGringo: When Fernando Hernandez of Real de Mexico sent us his blanco and his repo, we were happy. (It's fair to say we get happy with each and every bottle that comes in the mail, wouldn't you?) But maybe this was a little different because Fernando had been very nice and a pleasure to work with, and we hoped his tequila would be a good one. So, we poured it into our Reidel tequila glasses and gave it a whiff. Light sweet agave and a bit of pepper on nose. Good start on a blanco. Medium heat. OK. The flavor? You know, it was pretty simple, but in a good way. Sometimes when there's little complexity but you get a good simple agave, that's what you want. The length of the finish was standard. Read more »
Riazul Anejo
From TequilaGringo: We'd heard some good things about this anejo so, much like Pavlov's dogs, our mouths were watering simply on sight. I'm happy to report that this tequila doesn't disappoint. And it's one of the most unique tequila's we've tried. The first sniff brought us a wide range of different smells, while cinnamon is the most prominent, there are also a buttery smell, and what I can only describe as a pastry-like note in there. Then came the taste. At first you get some agave, and some heat, but very very quickly the flavors start coming. One of our tasters actually said "cinnamon bun", another, "candy apple". There are some notes of wood and vanilla in there as well, but the cinnamon leads the Read more »
Riazul Silver
From TequilaGringo: These distinct bottles arrived and we were immediately intrigued. The first we tried was the silver (habit I guess). Riazul starts with 6 year old agave's, where most use 8-10 yr old plants. Riazul reports that sugar levels in the younger plants is higher and helps create their great taste. The nose came off as a vegetal, earthy agave. Not necessarily typical for a highland tequila. The taste is where this tequila impresses, it's really fantastic. Read more »
Dos Lunas Blanco
From Tequila Gringo: We loved the repo offering from Dos Lunas and so were excited to try out the blanco. Their blanco is from the midlands, and they use 10 year old agaves (8 is a little more common, the extra age means bigger pinas and more time to pick up flavors from the soil or air depending on altitude). The nose was a sweet agave and fruit. Upon taste, more of the same. A nice, smooth, simple blanco. A soft, almost velvety mouth feel. Overall, a solid offering. Our socks didn't fly off like they did with the repo- but that's an unfairly high bar. 7 stars, and an easy choice if you're looking at patron as the competitor.
Corzo Reposado
TequilaGringo: Corzo reposado's a solid choice because they're pretty easy to find and so much better than the typical tequila out there. Each bottle is 7-12 years in the making. They use twice the agave compared to most other tequilas. Though more expensive, they cut down to the purest heart of the distillate. The tequila is from the Los Altos de Jalisco area, and that higher altitude produces agave with a higher sugar content making for sweeter flavors. Corzo's also the only tequila to incorporate a second mellowing process prior to the third distillation. The double mellowing enhances the oak and vanilla flavors while maintaining the softness and smoothness of the finish. We found the nose to be mostly agave, Read more »
Corzo Silver
TequilaGringo: Corzo shipped us one of their new 50ml mini-bottles for this one. They're great little bottles, basically like carrying around a flask. They look just like the beautiful, modern 750ml ones, simply smaller. And what's inside is pretty great too. We must say, we liked this blanco. The nose was definitely agave, but maybe with a hint of sugar. Taste held up nicely to the expectations set by the bottle design and nose. Green pepper. Agave. Good level of complexity. Mouth feel we thought was best described as "soft". If you're looking for a blanco, we think you should check this one out. Corzo is easier to find than many tequilas because of their great distributio
901 Tequila
TequilaGringo.com Review: Justin Timberlake has come out with a winner. I must say, I was a little biased against this tequila from the start (unfairly so) just because I thought it didn't really seem "mexican" or authentic. When the bottle came I started to change my perception. It's a better design in person than in the pictures. Then we poured a little into a tequila glass, and had a whiff. Read more »
Penca Azul Reposado
Esperanto Reposado
From Tequila Gringo:
Very pale in color. Agave smell, similar to a Cazadores Repo. Finishes a little too quickly for us, sort of "here one second, gone the next". Medium heat. Basically a middle of the road, typical tequila, which isn't bad, but frankly we'd like a little more for its price. We believe this bottle style can only be found in Mexico.
El Diamonte Del Cielo
From Tequila Gringo:
We loved this tequila. A relative brought it by on the recommendation from a store owner so we gave it a go. It sure passed the smell test, and we dove in. The first thing we noticed was the caramel and chocolately goodness. Vanilla was in there too. Smooth finish. A real treat this one is.
Corzo Anejo
Tequila Gringo We were thrilled when this bottle arrived in the mail from Corzo. Previously, we bought it for one of our birthday parties and everyone loved it - no better testament than this: it was gone within 30 minutes. Read more »
