Sol de Mexico Blanco
From TequilaGringo: The nose on this blanco was earthy/clove-y, slightly smokey. Usually it's the lowland tequilas that have more earthy tones, so this surprised us a bit. On taste, we found it to posses a true agave flavor, with perhaps a hint of cucumber (but oh so slight). We found it to have a really full bodied, flavorful taste - particularly for a blanco. Yet it's also a mild tequila, with low heat, and it's exceptionally smooth. The mouthfeel was velvety. 8 stars.
Tasted 10/27/2009. NOM 1526
From Sol de Mexico: Blanco Tequila is a clear, non-aged spirit bottled right from the still. It preserves the purest agave flavor, the best ingredient for most tequila cocktails, and is perfect for sipping. The Beverage Testing Institute calls it "clear." Vanilla scented candle, prune, cucumber and spicy sweet potato aromas follow through on a soft, satiny entry to a dry yet fruity medium body with notes of white pepper, anise cookie, clove and minerals. Finished with a long, tongue tingling fade. Delicious. International Review of Spirits Award: Gold Medal. Rated 92 points – Exceptional.
Don Gonzalez Gutierrez and his son Juan Gonzalez Ramirez planted their first agave seeds in 1951 in the sun-washed highland fields and volcanic soil of Jalisco, Mexico, beginning the journey of Sol de Mexico. Today, great grandson Cesar Gonzalez is the driving force that continues the tradition of distilling this premium tequila.
Under Cesar’s dedicated stewardship, Sol de Mexico has developed a luxury spirit. Each of the three offerings – Blanco Tequila, Reposado Tequila and Anejo Tequila – are 100% blue agave. With the additional guidance of Master Distiller Salvador Fonseca, each step of the production is steeped in a culture that has been handed down in his own family for generations.
Ralph Hughes, founder of family-owned UA Imports, traveled throughout Mexico's Tequila Region tasting premium tequila brands to import to the United States. After comparing and tasting many varieties, he selected Sol de Mexico as his personal favorite due to its smooth finish.
