Nice Agave Flavored Tequila

From TequilaGringo.com     The nose on the tequila from this fantasticly designed bottle is very much agave.  On sipping it, we found the mouthfeel to be thin, and the finish to be hot but clean.  A solid tequila that you'll like, but may not be moved to fall in love with.

From Thedrinkshop.com:     The fermented agave juice is distilled three times, in traditional alambic pots, separating the heads and the tails at each distillation and only keeping the heart of each distillate. Plata Triple-Distilled at 45% alcohol by volume is also the starting point for the ageing process which will over time produce Porfidio Anejo Single Barrel.

Porfidio

I had heard that Poridio had been closed down due to the mount of agave in the tequila was not the % that was writen on the bottle. After warnings given to the owner over and over the Mexican Government stepped in and closed the whole operation down. 10-15 years ago Porfidio was the shit. It was closed down and it is very hard to find. The bottle was even very cool as well. To keep the company from going under I heard also that Porfidio sold it's bottling rights to another company. I saw this bottle ouce. It was a very good tequila. Now this bottle is gone. How much of this is true? And did Porfidio make a come back?

New Porfidio Plata

while the current bottlings of Porfidio (on the shelves for the last 5+ years) are not bad, it like JB Wagoner's, is a "destilado de agave", not tequila. No where on the bottle does it mention tequila or even where it is produced...Mexico? Africa? Panama? Ah, the mysteries of the great Porfidio...
