Tastus The Cactus - We did and loved it

Tequila Gringo Review
What can we say, we loved this stuff. We picked up caramel and spice on both the nose and the taste. Comes in pretty cool bottle as well, so it's got that goin' for it. We're putting it on our best anejos list, so now it's got that goin' for it as well.

Company Line:
The Single-Barrel Añejo has been the most successful product of the popular Porfidio line. Normally tequila añejo is stored in a number of oak barrels and upon completion of the aging process the contents of each barrel is then combined prior to bottling in order to achieve a level of consistency from bottle to bottle. The contents of each bottle of Porfidio Cactus Single-Barrel is direct from a single selected barrel.
Porfidio Añejo Single-Barrel has been the winner in four consecutive years of the World Champion Añejo Tequila Award by the Wine Enthusiast with the highest qualification ever given to a tequila brand (98 out of 100). The Cactus bottle has also received numerous awards for it's beautiful and innovative design. Some years back Porfidio changed it's technique in the production of the famous Cactus bottle. According to Porfidio The original "cactus bottles" were freely blown into the air where as they are now hand-blown into a mold in order to guarantee the capacity. While any bottle of Porfidio Single-Barrel would likely be coveted, the early "Cactus" bottles which can be distinguished by the green rims at the mouth have become highly sought after by collectors.

Evaporating tequila

I have an unopened bottle of La Cofradia Edicion Iguanas. I have had it for years and I took it out of my liquor cabinet and it is empty. So sad. :"( If I don't drink a lot, what is the best way to keep it from evaporating?

Green lip bottles

I have an unopened Bottle of this and i think it is evaporating slowly through the cork. I am no expert but will this make the contents go bad? should I just open it and drink it asap? or is it ok until i have an occasion to open it? should i seal it with wax?

Drink it now and.enjoy the

Drink it now and.enjoy the best or sell it on eBay for $500. It sounds like you have the real original porfidio and.should.be able to get top dollar. Most people are selling the.newer stuff which says beyond tequila on the.bottle . Yours should not say that. Porfidio was shut down years ago when the agave shortage caused counterfeiting.

Drink it up!

A friend of ours had a bottle of Cuervo Reserva de la Familia (which is a corked bottle) that he slowly drank when nice occasions came along, but after several years it turned.  Tequila keeps for a long time very well, but if you wait 4-5 years it can sour on you (at least the anejo's can - I haven't seen it with a blanco yet, I guess we just don't let em get too old around here).  If yours is starting to evaporate, I'd probably look for a good occasion pretty quickly just in case - and hey, it aint like that's a bad thing to have to do!

OLD PORFIDIO RIGHT?

I dont like the new one

It must be.the.old porfidio

It must be.the.old porfidio (which is the.best tequila I have ever tasted) because the newer porfidio (last 10 years) isn't even real porfidio/tequila. If the.bottle says.beyond tequila on it then it is the newer stuff which is decent but nowhere near the original.

Porfidio is Questionable

I visitied the original Porfidio property near the Puerto Vallarta Airport several years ago. The property in now abandoned and the following rumors exist as to why Porfidio is now just a name, not an actual distillery:
1. They were shut down by the Mexican Government for making fake tequila.
2. The original owner took off and is in hiding somewhere.
3. The original owner, though in hiding, is trying to get his business back.

Who knows what the real story is, but the original Porfidio is not today's Porfidio. If anyone knows, let me know:

Porfidio Anejo

I actually like the 2005, 2008 and 2010 vintages best

Not real porfidio. Says

Not real porfidio. Says beyond tequila on the.bottle. sorry
